Time to take a hard look at soft signage.
Lauren Blais | Product Marketing Manager, Inkjet Solutions, EFI
If you’re in the wide- and superwide-format display graphics printing market, you know what’s going on. Shrinking margins from the commoditization of traditional UV inkjet graphics. Increased downward pricing pressures. Big demands for faster job turns. So to be competitive, you continue to reduce your productions costs and capture the display graphics work your customers want most. All while shortening your delivery time. Maybe you need a softer approach!
Make it a banner year.
No doubt you’ve heard the buzz — BOOM is a better word — about the explosive growth in the soft signage market, and the growing demand for fabric soft signage display graphics. It’s no wonder print providers are shifting some of their traditional UV work to fabric printing.
What is soft signage anyway?
Okay, let’s get out the dictionary. Soft signage is defined as display graphics printed direct or transfer process to textile or fabric media. It encompasses a wide range of print applications, including trade show and event graphics, backlit displays, retail store décor elements, as well as flags and banners. All premium-margin applications. You don’t need a dictionary for that term!
The growth factors.
The soft signage market is experiencing huge, unprecedented growth. In fact, according to IT Strategies, the output of dye-sublimation digital soft signage printing is expected to grow at an 8% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) between 2015 and 2020.
Buyers. The reason for this growth is buyers. Soft signs and fabric displays retain the drape and soft hand for a higher-end look and feel they prefer. Soft signs can be washed and dried without wrinkling. They can be folded without leaving marks, and used again and again. They’re lighter weight, which reduces shipping costs and makes installation easier. And they have a better environmental footprint than vinyl or PVC. Simply put, it’s everything customers are willing to pay a premium-price for.
Dye sublimation printers. The digital dye sublimation printers on the market today are better than ever. From stunning image quality and production level throughput to less ink consumption to the lightweight nature of soft signs — it all adds up to lower costs and higher profits.
